Under Ohio Law, and in accordance with 1196 OP. Atty. Gen. No. 96-019, the county recorder shall accept for recording only documents that are authorized by the Ohio Revised Code to be recorded.

As your county recorder, I recommend that you review your documents carefully prior to recording them.Check to be sure your social security number is not listed on the documents. Once they are filed, they can be viewed by other persons. Effective 09/26/06, no document with a SSN is to be recorded (unless the document is mandated by law to include the SSN). Recorder or presenter may redact SSN; otherwise document is to be recorded only if accompanied by an affidavit. In Carroll County, the Recorder's office does NOT redact a number. Note that documents executed before 09/28/06 are not subject to this law. (See ORC 317.082)

Financing Statements (Uniform Commercial Code)
From January 1, 1995 to May 5, 2006-All U.C.C.ís were indexed in the financing statement system in the computer.Those affecting real estate were also indexed in the tract system of the computer by name.
Since July 1, 2001 all non-real estate U.C.C.ís are filed with the Secretary of State.All real estate related U.C.C.ís are still filed with the Recorderís office.
From June 1, 2006 to current-All real estate related U.C.C.ís are indexed and scanned in the tract system of the computer.
Internet Use Instructions
This website contains real estate information from 1990 to present. Real estate documents prior to 1990 can be found only in the Recorderís Office.
Documents are indexed under a tract indexing system.We assign an instrument number to every document that is recorded.Each instrument is also assigned a volume and page number.This is done so each page in an instrument is accounted for.
You may search documents by using a name, volume/page and instrument number.The index is forward and reverse. (i.e.) -
1. If you are searching for your mortgage, you may search for the mortgagor or mortgagee.
2. If you are searching for a deed, you may search for the grantor or grantee.
The most common search is a name search.Simply type the name of the person or entities you are searching, last name first, first name and middle initial and click the search button. If you are searching a business, type the full name of the business.
